Ah-Ha: Creative EAL Teaching

 
Overview
 

This workshop focusses on communicational ability and the powerful ‘cross-over’ effects that Artis approaches have for learners who speak English as an Additional Language. (e.g. confidence building, attaching meaning to language, encouraging peer interaction and building self-esteem) .

This session you will guide teachers a series of fun Artis which combine language with practical, active and creative tasks to help meet some of the needs of EAL learners.

Objectives

  • To increase an understanding what of it is like to communicate under pressure and how EAL learners may cope with overload in the classroom.
  • To look at ways for teachers can decrease this burden by setting up structures, objects and visual aids that make for a welcoming EAL learning space.
  • To learn a number of music, movement and drama activities that feature repetition, visual cues, props, pair mirroring, copying and following to support vocabulary building and language acquisition.

Suitable for KS1 & KS2 teachers

Available as twilight, half or full day
